It's June in the Poconos and strawberries are ripe. Fight the birds over them or get a net quick.
If you have mulched your berries they should be nice and pest free. There are two types in my garden.
Alpine-tiny, juicy berries that will fruit in spring and fall.
June bearing- which look like grocery store but with intense flavor.
I was so surprised that I had berries since our danger of frost is just over. Quickly I run to a local orchard's very helpful chart by month. The next step is to replace that mulch with STRAW. Imagine on the beach with a dark t-shirt and pants or a white bathing suit....ahhh, berries like to be cool.
Strawberries, go figure. Picture straw hats and rhubarb pie. Huh, like you have time to picture anything.
No gardener has time to blog, however, it beats signing in to work.
